Abstract

Seerah Of the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) has utmost importance in Islam, therefore scholars devoted themselves in memorizing preserving and propagating it by different ways, one of them is describing it in their poetry. Alfia is a type of Arabic poetry in which poet describes some kind of Arabic literature like Balagha, Nahw or seerah in about one thousand verses more or less. Many scholars penned the seerah of Holy Prophet in this way, one of most famous of them was Al-Hafiz Abdur Raheem Al-Iraqi (806 AH) well known as Hafiz Al-Iraqi a great hadith scholar, remarkable shafee jurisprudent and master of seerah studies in his time.

    Hafiz al-Iraqi was interested in describing the details of different Islamic sciences in verses of his poetry, he wrote four alfias in different sciences like ghareebul Quran, uloomul hadith, usoole fiqh and seerah.

This article throw light on Iraqi’s unique work of alfia in seerah, a critical review of his work by examining the actual worth and value of this and introducing the lost and forgotten jewel of Islamic library.
